Students may be exempt from a particular pre-planned classroom activity or from selected portions of the
established curriculum where such accommodation, based on religious beliefs, is required by statute or Board
policy. In addition, students may be excused from class to participate in religious services.
Requests for an excused absence or release from a particular instructional unit or activity should be submitted in
writing by the student's parent, legal guardian or by adult students to the principal. Such requests shall be kept
confidential.
The request must specify the reason for the absence or objection to a particular activity or unit. In the case of
release from instruction, teachers will assign alternative activities if the request for exemption is approved by the
principal.
Complaints regarding administration of this policy may be filed through the District's discrimination report
procedures.
