The Wauwatosa School Board and administration recognize, in accordance with State law, the right of a parent or
guardian to have their children released from school to receive religious instruction. While religious instruction
scheduled during non-school hours is preferable in that it does not result in a loss of academic time, provisions will
be made to accommodate up to one period of release time a week for religious instruction.
The following procedures must be followed for a released time program:
A. Requests for a released time program should be made in writing by the program organizers to the school
principal, and copied to the Superintendent/designee. Such requests should specify the day of week, times
and location of the instruction.
B. Each student electing to participate in a released time program must submit a written permission slip from a
parent or legal guardian specifying the student's intent to participate in the program.
C. Students requesting participation in the released time program must participate in that activity for the entire
time the activity is scheduled.
D. The program organizers shall submit attendance lists to the school office within 24 hours of the released time
instruction. Students who did not attend the religious instruction may be denied future participation.
E. Students who miss classwork and assignments as a result of their participation are responsible for finding
out about and making up such work. Normal instruction will continue during such absence.
Transportation to and from religious instruction is the responsibility of the parent, legal guardian or sponsoring
organization.
