3242 AdmGuide_Professional and Support Staff

The Wauwatosa School District is dedicated to providing a systematic, yet flexible, program of learning
experiences for its staff. This commitment to an ongoing learning process is based on the following premises:

    A. The effectiveness of the Wauwatosa School District as an educational system is highly dependent on the
        quality of its staff.

    B. The staff, a clearly recognizable prized asset, is a resource that must be kept current, supported, and
        involved in professional growth.

    C. Each building principal/supervisor plays a vital role in assisting staff members in their professional growth.

    D. As a team, staff members, principals and supervisors need to identify and implement methods to meet both
        long and short range goals.

    E. Staff development requires that commitments be made and responsibilities be accepted to meet those
broader needs of the District as a whole.

The District's program should allow for sufficient time to provide opportunities for staff to become informed about
current theory and concepts, and to determine their value and practical application. The District recognizes the
importance of, and therefore provides for, staff involvement in the planning, implementation, and assessment of its
staff development program.

In keeping with this policy, the administration shall present a staff development plan to the School Board on an
annual basis.
