5630.01 – APPROPRIATE USE OF SECLUSION AND RESTRAINT

The Wauwatosa School district is committed to creating an environment that provides for the physical safety and security of all students and staff.  In instances when a student’s behavior poses a threat to the safety of him/herself or others, seclusion and restraint may be required.  In these incidents, the Wauwatosa School District applies the provisions of Wisconsin Act 125-Seclusion and Physical Restraint.

Seclusion and restraint is only used as an emergency measure and is reserved for those occasions when severely aggressive, combative, or destructive behavior places the student or others in imminent danger.

The district shall prepare administrative guidelines in accordance with Wisconsin Act 125.  Principals or designee’s must document all incidents of seclusion and restraint on the Wauwatosa School District Seclusion and Restraint reporting form.  The district will prepare an annual report for the school board reporting incidents of seclusion and restraint.
