6111 Policy_Charter School Planning Grants

Charter schools provide an opportunity develop innovative educational programs within the public school system,
thus providing more choice for students and parents. The Board of Education will consider the establishment of a
charter school as provided by State statute and administrative regulations.
To facilitate the necessary research and preparation required for the establishment of a charter school, the Board
may consider endorsing a charter school planning proposal and/or acting as the fiscal agent for a planning grant.
Such endorsement will be based on:
    A. Whether the concept of the proposed charter school is consistent with the District's mission and values;
    B. Whether the proposed charter school is significantly different from current educational programs within the
        District, thus offering students and parents District educational choices;
    C. Whether the charter school planning proposal sufficiently estimates expectations for the District, in terms of
        time and resources, during the planning process, providing for reimbursement if applicable;
    D. Whether the charter school planning proposal must indicate the applicant(s)' intent to adhere to all
        requirements of State and Federal law and administrative guidelines for charter schools;
    E. Such other factors or consideration that the Board shall, within its direction, deem relevant.
