7410.01 Policy - Principals' Building Responsibility

Physical Facilities/Playground and Equipment

The principal of each building has a broad range of instructional and building management respon-sibilities. The instructional responsibilities include providing leadership in developing the expectations for staff, students, and community, identifying needs, planning, and establishing a climate conducive to teaching and learning. Among the building management responsibilities is the providing for safe, sanitary, and attractive conditions within the building and on the school site. These responsibilities include directing, planning, and supervising the work of the custodial staff and regularly inspecting the building and school site. Assistance in performing these responsibilities is provided by the Building and Grounds Department.

The principal of each building is responsible for regular inspections of the building(s) and grounds and should report maintenance needs to the Department of Building and Grounds. Two (2) formal inspections of playground equipment are required, one (1) each during the months of September and April.

Installation of playground equipment must have approval from the District’s Safety Committee. Once playground equipment is installed, it becomes the Board’s responsibility to maintain the item(s) in safe operating condition.
