The Board of Education recognizes that the preparation of a calendar for the instructional program of the schools is
necessary for orderly educational planning and for the efficient operation of the District. Classes shall not begin
prior to September 1st except when holding year-round school or when so authorized by the Department of Public
Instruction.
The Board shall determine annually the total number of days when the schools will be in session for instructional
purposes. For purposes of receiving State school aid, such days will number no fewer than 180 and that the
minimum number of hours of student instruction shall comply with the number of hours required by statute.
The Superintendent is authorized to work with the CESA on the development of a common calendar for all of the
districts in the service area.
No more than five (5) school days lost due to inclement weather, parent-teacher conferences, and closure of the
school by order of a local health officer can be counted as part of the 180 days of instruction. All subsequent days
lost for instruction cannot be counted for State school aid.
The Superintendent shall certify to the Department of Public Instruction the number of days and hours of student
instruction during the previous school year.
